Thorney Island Army Cadets

About us.......

No26 Thorney Island detachment, Sussex ACF opened in 2002 and has since seen hundreds of army cadets pass through its doors. Its location is perfect for orienteering, fieldcraft training and sports.

Our cadets have recently been involved in:

  • Signals (using military radios)
  • Kit Kar display team
  • Shooting teams
  • Foreign  exchange visits (Singapore, Germany, Canada)
  • Adventurous training (canoeing, mountain biking, abseiling)
  • Expeditions in Devon and Cornwall
  • Regional swimming competitions
  • National athletics competitions

We encourage our cadets to join the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme (DofE) which focuses on community service, fitness, expeditions and a skill of their choice to develop. An excellent way to build character and a great qualification to add to your CV for when you are job hunting.

The detachment is affiliated to the Royal Regiment of Artillery who supply the Army’s firepower with tanks, infantry and attack helicopters. The cadets have recently been shown the clothing, equipment and technology used by the Regiment.
